 Alisher Navoi Theatre

  Alisher Navoi Theatre was built in 1947, designed by the academician of architecture A.V. Shusev. It is beautiful monumental building situated in the centre of Tashkent. The motifs of traditional Uzbek monumental architecture are used in the interior of the theatre.

  Large picture is a decorative ornament of lobby; here you can notice motives of architectural schools of Tashkent, Fergana, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khorezm. Magnificent crystal chandelier is a decoration of the hall; its weight is more than three tons. Openwork pictures of one of the hall are made in the style “islimi”. The construction of the building was stopped in 1942 because of the war difficulties, but it was resumed in 1944, the next year the building construction was completed by Japanese prisoners of the war. The main repertoire of the theatre is classical performances of world classic. Theatre festivals, concerts and tours of foreign representations are held here. The courtyard of the theatre is a wonderful world of national folk art. The building itself is an architectural monument of the middle of the XX century.

  As mentioned above, the music not only of Uzbek composers but also works of world classic by such composers as Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Verdi and others are performed in the theatre. The State Academic Theatre of Alisher Navoi is the largest theatre of South-East Asia.
